First Visit

On the day of your appointment, regardless if this appointment is for consultation only or consultation plus treatment, please avoid taking pain medications unless directed by your dentist, because pain medications can alter your tooth or teeth test results and interfere with the accuracy of diagnosis.

Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:

  • Your referral slip from your general dentist
  • A list of medications and doses you are taking
  • If you have dental insurance, bring your dental insurance card and driver’s license as the necessary identification card
  • Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian

A typical visit to our office begins with completing paperwork, which includes your medical history and consent forms. It is advisable to bring a list of all medications that you regularly take within the pass month (both over-the-counter and prescription), their doses, and why are you using these medications. If you require medication (i.e. antibiotics for pre-medication) prior to dental cleanings, contact your prescribing physician or general dentist for medication and take them prior to your visit to our office. If you have question about your medications or pre-medication, please contact us. We will try to answer or direct you to the sources to answer your questions.

Once paperwork is completed, an assistant will take you to treatment room. Our trained assistant will take your chief complaint, collect data regarding your tooth or teeth in concern, take X-ray(s), and review your medical history. After Dr. Irene Chang reviews this information, she will begin to examine your tooth or teeth in concern, and then discuss diagnosis and treatment options with awareness of benefits and risks involved in treatment with you, so you can make a wise decision in regard your treatment.

Your treatment may be completed in one or multiple visits depending on the necessity of your treatment. Most of treatments are performed under local anesthesia. If you are apprehensive, we do offer nitrous oxide sedation. While most patients are quite comfortable following treatment, we will inform and provide you a written after-treatment instruction to ensure your comfort over the next few days.

X-rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays (within 6 months), you may request that they forward them to our office. Additional digital x-ray or cone beam computed tomography(CBCT) are necessary and will be taken at our facility. This helps us obtain a full perspective of your endodontic needs. Please inform our staff if you think you might be pregnant, or are pregnant.
